In this book, we have placed the images – which were intended to be printed to the very edge – flush against the edge of the paper, without any bleed. (The overlap of the image beyond the trim line – the bleed – is standard practice in book production and prevents the cutting machine’s inaccuracies from becoming visible.)

We challenged this standard and did not want any part of Eberhard’s images to be cut off in the name of neatness; we also wanted to find out just how imprecisely such a machine actually cuts. Further books followed in which we worked in this way.
