From an email to the artist: (…) Perfect in terms of content; it lifts your spirits when you see him (the ghost), and I don’t want to exaggerate: but I think ghosts that you can only sense, intuit, that you have to believe in, have to allow for – as something intangible yet still present – are perfect for talking about the senses, perception and going mad; understimulation that creates gaps in which you feel cold draughts and other things :) Ghosts, in other words. I can imagine that each of your exhibitions is promoted by a different ghost: a small, chubby one, a tall, thin one, serious ones, tired ones, funny ones – all cousins. It’s a conversation piece – and I think it’s far more appealing than just a black square, no matter how elegant that square might be. I certainly hadn’t expected to be offering you a comic-style ghost to promote your exhibition, but I’m just going ahead with it because I think it’s so mad – and after all, there’s the Michelin Man who advertises car tyres.
